TEACHING ASTRONOMY AS A VERB!

The #ASTRO101 Astronomy & Planetary Science 2-Day Teaching Excellence Workshop

New Orleans-December 9 & 10, 2017 – just prior to the AGU American Geophysical Union conference and held at the University of New Orleans

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

Each year, an ever-widening diversity of students enter our introductory astronomy and planetary science courses.  Success with this growing diversity of students requires professors to employ a modernized teaching toolkit to intellectually engage contemporary students and enhance students’ achievement and attitudes.  This two-day participatory workshop helps professors revitalize their teaching methods and reinvigorate their course syllabus by learning how to develop storylines that students really remember, provide more engaging lectures, foster classroom attendance and participation, implement active learning activities that really work, enhance students’ quantitative reasoning, support students in doing astronomy, and efficiently manage student feedback and grading.  If you are looking to upgrade your astronomy or planetary science course teaching, this is the workshop for you!  Classroom-ready active learning materials are provided to all participants.

December 9 & 10, 2017 Location:  University of New Orleans, Room 308 in Bicentennial Education Center, 2000 Lakeshore Dr, New Orleans, LA 70148 (about 6 miles directly north of the French Quarter)
