TEACHING ASTRONOMY AS A VERB!

The #ASTRO101 Astronomy & Planetary Science 2-Day Teaching Excellence Workshop

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

Each year, an ever-widening diversity of students enter our introductory astronomy and planetary science courses.  Success with this growing diversity of students requires professors to employ a modernized teaching toolkit to intellectually engage contemporary students and enhance students’ achievement and attitudes.  This two-day participatory workshop helps professors revitalize their teaching methods and reinvigorate their course syllabus by learning how to develop storylines that students really remember, provide more engaging lectures, foster classroom attendance and participation, implement active learning activities that really work, enhance students’ quantitative reasoning, support students in doing astronomy, and efficiently manage student feedback and grading.  If you are looking to upgrade your astronomy or planetary science course teaching, this is the workshop for you!  Classroom-ready active learning materials are provided to all participants.

March 17 & 18, 2018:  Lee College, Room 113 in Gray Science Building, 200 Lee Dr, Baytown, TX 77520 (directly east of Houston, about 35 miles from IAH)
